XNA at Hull
Microsoft have recently announced the release of development software for games. The XNA framework can be used to write games for the PC and the XBOX 360 platforms. At the recent launch they identified three universities in the UK who will be working with them with the framework.
Of course Hull is one of them. I'll be doing the C# course this year and those on the Game Development course (and everyone else too if they like) will be writing games using XNA in semester 2.
If you fancy yourself as a games programmer you can now download the first release of XNA Studio. You also need Visual Studio Express 2005. Both of these are available for free. Take a look here to get started. This version does not support the transfer of games into an XBOX 360 but the next one will.
